Kore Global was contracted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on behalf of the Donor Committee for Enterprise Development (DCED) Women’s Economic Empowerment Community of Practice to conduct research on the gendered nexus between care and climate change. The project explored how climate change is reshaping care systems and what this means for private sector development, with the aim of providing practical recommendations for donors and development organisations.
Applying a gender lens throughout, the research examined how climate-related shocks increase unpaid care responsibilities while disrupting the infrastructure and services that support care. It also highlighted the critical role that care systems play in enabling workforce participation, enterprise resilience, and inclusive economic development.
The resulting report reframes care as essential economic and climate infrastructure rather than a peripheral social issue. It provides evidence-based recommendations for governments, donors, investors, and businesses to integrate care into climate adaptation strategies and private sector development initiatives, while advancing gender equality.
